Tottenham made an ambitious offer to sign Paris Saint-Germain target Lionel Messi after his shock exit from Barcelona, according to stunning reports.

Messi is now expected to undergo a medical with PSG ahead of completing a sensational free transfer to the Ligue 1 side.

The 34-year-old Barcelona legend made his exit from the Camp Nou after an emotional farewell press conference on Sunday.

Messi, who became a free agent in July, wished to remain at Barcelona and was prepared to slash his salary by 50 per cent in a bid to sign a new deal.

However, Barcelona's effort to keep the six-time Ballon d'Or winner at the club were scuppered due to La Liga's financial regulations.

Speaking at his press conference, Messi revealed that signing for PSG was a "possibility" and "different clubs" were interested in securing his services.
