The Superclasico derby between Argentine sides Boca Juniors and River Plate has been named the biggest club rivalry in world football.

Sportskeeda compiled the rankings and said that there are 'few places more intense than Buenos Aires on the day of the Superclasico.'

Boca Juniors vs River Plate topped the list ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid's heated contests in El Clasico.

According to Sportskeeda, Barcelona vs Madrid is a 'rivalry that needs no introduction' and El Clasico is considered as 'more than just a game of football.'

The Intercontinental Derby between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray completes the top three, with it being described as a 'one-of-a-kind football rivalry.'

The Premier League is represented with Liverpool vs Manchester United, while the Old Firm derby between Celtic and Rangers ranked behind it.

While there were plenty of rivalries to choose from in English football, Sportskeeda pointed to the significance of the 'country's two most successful clubs' battling it out.

The publication added: "The race for the crown of 'Best English Club' is the secret behind this rivalry. The legendary managers and players who have been part of this derby over the years have also helped spice things up."

Inter Milan vs AC Milan and Olympiacos vs Panathinaikos were other rivalries to feature from Europe.
