Rangers are the outright record holders for most domestic league titles in Europe ahead of Irish side Linfield and arch-rivals Celtic.

The Scottish Premiership side ended Celtic's hopes of retaining the title after beating St Mirren 3-0 on Saturday at the Ibrox.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and star striker Alfredo Morelos relished in their title triumph as they celebrated with fans.

The club's triumph is a remarkable turnaround after they fell into the bottom tier of Scottish football in 2012 after Rangers' financial collapse.

Rangers' latest league title victory has now moved them to a whopping 55 trophies.

Linfield ranked second with 53 league titles and Celtic are now four trophies shy of Rangers.

Real Madrid are tied alongside Ajax and Anderlecht on 34 trophies, while Juventus hold 36 league titles to their name and Benfica and Olympiacos sit on 37 and 45 respectively.

Czech side Sparta Prague round off the top 10 with 33 league trophies, according to Bleacher Report.

Posted below are the 10 European teams with the most domestic league titles in football history.

Gerrard, who has been linked with a sensational return to Liverpool, admitted that he was on a "real emotional high" after Rangers secured the Scottish Premiership title.

However, the 40-year-old Liverpool legend has insisted there is "more to come" from the Gers.

"It is very difficult to put into words right now," Gerrard told Rangers' official website.

"I'm on a real emotional high and it has been a journey that is not finished.

"There is more to come and the next thing for me, when you win, it is always about what is next, and I am so proud of the players first and foremost -- they are the most important people inside the club.

"But they are not as important as the supporters -- they are what makes this club and it is for them and we have been down at times, really low at times, but this is an incredible high."
