Much is made of Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes' ability to make staggering amounts of money from arranging multi million pound deals for his various clients, but even the richest agent in football cannot compare to baseball guru Scott Boras.

Boras, who owns Boras Corp, has negotiated player contracts worth a total of $2.19bn, while Mendes, the second richest sports agent in the world, has been responsible for $727m. In other words, Boras has negotiated for THREE TIMES the amount that Mendes has.

In commission alone, Boras is projected to earn $132m over the next few years, according to Forbes, with nine of his clients making him over $100m, while another 13 athletes bring a further $80m.

The Sacramento born agent negotiated the monumental $214m deal which took Prince Fielder to the Detroit Tigers in 2012, while Chris Davis' $161m switch to the Baltimore Oreoles in 2011 and two time World Series winner Jacob Ellsbury's $153m contract that he signed in 2014 with the New York Yankees are also particularly noteworthy.

Mendes, meanwhile, who founded Gestifute International 20 years ago, may represent the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho, but has seen his company lose somewhere in the region of £15m in the past year due to European rivals catching up with him. Jonathan Barnett, owner of London-based Stellar Group Limited, the second wealthiest agent in football, with deals totalling £288m. Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent, Dutchman Mino Raiola is shortly behind Barnett on £272m.

The top 10 list of the wealthiest agents in the world is as follows:

1. Scott Boras (baseball)

2. Jorge Mendes (soccer)

3. Sam and Seth Levinson (baseball)

4. Casey Close (baseball)

5. Jeff Schwartz (basketball)

6. Greg Genske (baseball)

7. Pat Brisson (hockey)

8. Tom Condon (american football)

9. Jonathan Barnett (football)

10. Mino Raiola (football)

Bearing in mind Mendes is rumoured to have generated himself a cool £14m payday from the sale of Elaqium Mangala from FC Porto to Manchester City, we wouldn't ruleout the Portuguese wheeler dealer making up some ground on Boras over the next few years. Especially if Cristiano needs one last, fat contract before retirement.
