In modern football, there are two debates that reoccur on an almost daily basis; Messi or Ronaldo? and Gerrard, Scholes or Lampard?

Let's face it, we're years past either of these arguments being fun, productive or meaningful in any way, shape or form but it is always interesting to see who some of the players in question are ranked by their fellow professionals, especially when said professionals are of the calibre of Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.

The World Cup and Champions League winning midfielder had his say on the Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard debate during a Twitter Q&A last night when he gave his answer, rather simply, when put on the spot about who he thought was the best midfielder out of the three Premier League legends.

Clocking in at 34,000 retweets and counting, Kroos' answer of Scholes clearly generated the most reactions of any of his answers, with the German midfielder preferring Scholes to Gerrard or Lampard.

Kroos was once linked with being Scholes' replacement at United back in 2013 when he became surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich under Pep Guardiola, but a David Moyes led United missed out on the German metronome, who instead opted for a £25 million move to the Bernabeu a year later, where he has since lifted two Champions Leagues, three FIFA Club World Cups and a La Liga title.
