The Premier League have released date that shows Manchester City's Leroy Sane is not only the fastest player in the top tier this season, he has clocked the fastest speed ever since Opta started collecting the data in 2013/14.

Jamie Vardy previously topped the speed charts when he ran at 35.44 km/hour in the 2015/16 season during Leicester City's unprecedented league triumph, where he weighed in with 23 goals.

But City's lightning quick winger Sane knocked him off the perch and became the division's new speed demon when he was recorded running at 35.48 km/hour (22.05 mph) in the 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in September.

Not only is the German the fastest in the league this term, edging out Crystal Palace's Patrick van Aanholt, he is also the quickest player since records began.

Here are the two lists in full, with some very surprising inclusions:

As you'll see, players with pace to burn such as Vardy, van Aanholt, Kyle Walker, Anthony Martial, Moussa Sissoko, Shane Long and Modou Barrow are all in the mix, but you'd never have put Carl Jenkinson and Hugo Rodallega up there!

The records say that Sane is the king of speed but his teammate Walker fancies his chances in a 1v1 sprint, challenging the former Schalke man to a race for charity.

Despite Sane accepting the proposition, the two have been unable to fit in the contest as of yet but it really can't come soon enough.

Sane or Walker - who takes it?
