The Sporting Stats That You Still Can't Believe Are Real

Some of these are just next level...

In times of self-isolation, quarantine and subsequent boredom, fans have been sharing some of the most mindblowing stats in sport.

And here at SPORTbible, we've decided to collect the very best facts and put them in one place for you to take in.

1. Lionel Messi scored 91 goals in a single calendar year

You simply cannot start with any other stat. Lionel Andres Messi found the net a ridiculous 91 times back in 2012. He did it in 69 games for club and country and nearly eight years on we've still not properly processed it.

2. Didier Drogba's big game record was insane

When the term 'clutch player' is used, you cannot finish the sentence without mentioning Didier Drogba. The Ivorian played in 11 cup finals for Chelsea, scoring in ten of them and only losing once.

He also absolutely loved terrorising Arsenal, scoring 15 goals in as many games against the Gunners.

3. Roy Hodgson is older than the Santiago Bernabeu

The Crystal Palace boss is still going strong in management but you might not be aware that at 72 years of age, he was born before Real Madrid's iconic stadium was built.

4. Jose Mourinho went nine years without losing a home game

He may have lost some of his magic in recent years but in his pomp, Jose Mourinho went nine years and 150 games without tasting defeat on home soil.

Incredibly, the Portuguese manager took charge of four different clubs in this period.

5. Manchester United have NEVER lost a Premier League game at Old Trafford after leading at half-time

If Manchester United are winning at half-time at home in the Premier League, there's next to no chance of them losing.

6. Chelsea conceded just 15 goals in the 2004/05 Premier League season

The 2004/05 Chelsea side that won the Premier League under Mourinho was built on a solid backline that somehow conceded just 15 goals in the league.

To put it into perspective, Liverpool have conceded 21 this season after 29 games.

7. Tiger Woods was world No.1 for a long, long time

Rory McIlroy made history earlier this month when he became the third player to sit comfortably in the World No.1 ranking for consecutive 100 weeks.

But sadly for him, there's little chance of him surpassing Tiger Woods.

8. Messi and Ronaldo and their sons have the exact same age gap

Born 869 days apart, the two titans of world football have shared the stage for over ten years. Will their sons do the same? Rather eerily, there's also the same age gap between Cristiano Jr and Thiago, Messi's eldest son.

9. Manchester United have named an academy graduate in their squad for over 4,000 games in a row.

Manchester United pride themselves on giving young players a chance in the first-team and the stats absolutely back that up. Since 1937, they've named an academy graduate in the matchday squad for over 4,000 consecutive games.

10. PSG players have the most bizarre bonus

Applauding the supporters after a game is pretty mandatory across football, even after a poor result.

But for PSG players, they are given an 'ethical bonus' if they do so. Neymar, the most expensive player in world football, is said to receive 375,000 euros just for a bit of post-match clapping.
