Cristiano Ronaldo knows a thing or two about what it means to be the best player on the planet, having won the Ballon d'Or five times but who does he think has the potential to succeed him as the world's best?

With Ronaldo moving into the twilight of his career, he's keeping an eye on the potential talent rising through the ranks who bid to take his spot as the world's best.

And when asked by a reporter in 2017, Ronaldo named the six players who can succeed him.

"A very good question. I see some with great potential: Asensio, Mbappe, Neymar, Dembele, Hazard, Rashford, and some others. In the next generation there are at least 10 players with very, very great potential," Ronaldo said via The Daily Mail.

Much was expected of Marco Asensio after his contributions in Real Madrid's Champions League triumph in 2017/18 and though he's had rotten luck with injuries, the Spaniard remains a serious talent.

Mbappe, still only 21, has scored over 130 career goals and after coming in fourth place in the last year's Ballon d'Or, the World Cup winner will surely continue to climb the rankings in the coming years.

His club teammate Neymar became the world's most expensive player in 2017 and is the de facto number one candidate to take over from Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the best in the world. He may already be in the top three.

Dembele was Neymar's replacement at the Camp Nou and while he has struggled with injuries after a big money move, he's still shown glimpses of what he's about.

Ronaldo has also tipped Eden Hazard and Marcus Rashford to continue their ascension in the game.

Will any of the names Ronaldo has put forward become the world's best?
