The Premier League season is done and dusted for another season and a couple of sets of statistics are doing the rounds.

Using statistics, The Express have compiled a list of the dirtiest players in the season just gone.

Basing it on the number of fouls given away, Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke is the top offender.

The big Belgian has a knack of mixing it, and getting physical with defenders and absolutely shows in the amount of fouls the former Aston Villa and Liverpool man gave away in 2016/17. Benteke was adjudged to have fouled his opponent a staggering 81 times last term.

His former Liverpool teammate Emre Can, who scooped four separate goal of the season awards for his utterly sublime overhead kick scored in a crucial 1-0 win away at Watford, is in second place in terms of the amount of times a player has been penalised for a foul last season. The German gave away 70 fouls.

Tottenham midfielder Vincent Wanyama, Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu and Middlesbrough's Marten De Roon were all in joint third place on 66 fouls, while Paul Pogba and Jason Puncheon were both tied on 62 and therefore finished up in sixth position.
