The Most Shocking 'Ghost Goal' Happened In Scottish Football

Happy Halloween all...

Imagine having a goal ruled out, even though the ball clearly hits the back of net. You'd be absolutely fuming, right?

Well, that's what happened to Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle in September in what has been labelled one of the worst refereeing decisions of all time. I hope you are sat down ready for this one.

Kris Doolan thought he'd bagged his first goal of the season against Greenock Morton after a superb strike clipped the underside of the bar, and despite the ball clearly hitting the net seconds later, officials decided to rule the 'ghost goal' out and give a throw in.

No, seriously this actually happened. Just take a look at the incident uploaded by Partick Thistle's official Twitter account:

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald described the incident as "bizarre" and "unbelievable" - we've got to agree with him on this one:

"I'm just glad it didn't have an effect on the outcome." he said after the game.

"The referee could have overruled [the assistant], and the other assistant can see it and just say, 'the linesman has had a bit of a bad day there, can we help him out?'

"I'm only calm because we've won the game, but it beggars belief."

One guy on Twitter even lost over £100 because of the decision. You can clearly see the net ripple - how can you get this so wrong?

Luckily for Thistle this disallowed goal didn't stop them from picking up all three points after a Chris Erskine goal in the 50th minute helped them climb the Championship ladder.

Madness. The best example of a 'ghost goal' in football?
