Cristiano Ronaldo is mentally bullet proof and the moments leading up to the penalty against Juventus proves that.

Real Madrid are in the last four of the Champions League. But they didn't have it their own way on Wednesday night.

After taking a three-goal lead following the victory at Juventus, the tie was leveled courtesy a stunning reply from the Italian visitors.

Mario Mandzukic (x2) and Blaise Matuidi put Juventus three-up on the night. It appeared extra time was beckoning until deep, deep into stoppage time.

Michael Oliver controversially awarded a penalty after judging Medhi Benatia to have fouled Lucas Vasquez.

It was almost like the stage was set for him to make his impact on the game. And he succeeded, converting the spot-kick in truly sublime fashion.

Though, it wasn't without Juventus mind games. Several players attempted to put him off, with others even scuffing up the spot.

However, Ronaldo didn't react, patiently waiting to send his side through to the semi-final.

Elite mentality.

Despite his heroics, the main talking point was Oliver who sent off Gianluigi Buffon after he vehemently protested the decision to award a last gasp penalty.

And Ronaldo doesn't understand Juventus' protest.

"I don't understand why they are protesting. Lucas was tackled from behind and if they don't give him the penalty, it's a goal," he said via Sky Sports.

Ronaldo also spoke about the moments leading up to the penalty: "The pulse increased, but I calmed down, and I knew I'd be decisive," he added after slotting a ridiculously-good penalty."

While sharing his thoughts on the events which occurred at the Bernabeu.

"We have suffered, but it helps us to learn. In football, nothing is given away, you have to fight until the end. Madrid could've scored more goals, but Juve and Buffon were good."

Will Ronaldo and co. go all the way in the Champions League?
