No punches pulled...

Steven Gerrard snapped at a journalist in a press conference today, interrupting his question to Jordan Rossiter and answering it himself.

The reporter was referencing Gerrard's comments after the disappointing 1-0 Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen, where the Liverpool legend said he'd have no problem replacing his players if they didn't pull their weight.

Rossiter, who made five appearances, was asked whether those comments act as motivation for him but only got as far as saying, "Well I think at any big club," before Gerrard stopped him in his tracks.

"I'll answer that, it's a warning," the former England skipper interrupted.

"It's a question for me that, not him (Rossiter), he's been injured for two years. At a big club, we expect big players to step up on big occasions and provide big moments.

"If that doesn't happen, at any big club, the managers and the recruitment will find better players or players who will do that."

Gerrard then flashed a smile at the interviewer, with Rossiter not saying a word sat next to him.

The 38-year old was speaking ahead of the Ladbrokes Premiership game against Kilmarnock on Wednesday and will be hoping to return to winning ways.

His side are currently fifth in the Scottish top flight, eight points behind league leaders Hearts.

Gerrard, who was handed his start in management as the Liverpool Under 18's academy boss still has a long way to go in his career.

But Dennis Wise thinks it won't be long before Gerrard, along with former England colleagues John Terry and Frank Lampard, are managing in the Premier League.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what will pan out with these guys," Wise told the Daily Star.

"Terry is managerial material, as with Frank and Steven Gerrard. They are obviously learning their trades at the moment which is fantastic.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the three of them compete as managers in the Premier League, I really am and one day that will happen.

"They are three English coaches and it would be an absolute delight to see them all in the Premier League. Obviously they have to do their first part of it which is what they're doing at the moment."
