Exactly a year to the day that his original Cristiano Ronaldo bust was ridiculed worldwide, the artist who created it has knocked up another effort.

At an event marking the five-time Ballon d'or having an airport in his birthplace of Funchal, Madeira named after him, CR7 had very own statue unveiled.

The problem was, the statue was a bit naff - and both Ronaldo and Emanuel Santos, the man who made the sculpture, ended up being relentlessly trolled on social media.

Here are just a few of the reactions:

However, despite the immense criticism, Santos, who is from the same area as the Real Madrid superstar, defended his creation and said Ronaldo was more than happy with it.

Speaking to Portuguese media, he said:

"I was with the brother at Cristiano's museum in Madeira and from the messages he sent, I could tell that he liked what he saw.

"He only asked for some wrinkles to be changed, that give him a certain expression in his face when he's about to laugh.

"He said it made him look older and asked for it to be thinned out a bit to make it smoother and more jovial. But they gave it the go-ahead before they liked what they saw."

Though he was satisfied with his first effort, Bleacher Report asked Santos to make a second bust for the one-year anniversary and he duly obliged.

In the following 10-minute clip, Santos and his wife quite emotional when talking about the negative reaction to his piece of art.

We then see the finished product and it's safe to say the second effort is much better. Kudos, Emanuel.
