The Glen Johnson To Barcelona Rumour Is Still Floating About

The Glen Johnson To Barcelona Rumour Is Still Floating About

Surely not?

One would think the Glen Johnson to Barcelona rumour was made up by Jay from the Inbetweeners but the links are very much still floating around.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Johnson is on Barcelona's shortlist for the right-back berth, with Aleix Vidal failing to fit in at the Nou Camp.

Sergi Roberto has deputised at right-back but Barca are still on the look-out for a defender whose primary position is on the right-side of defence.

Vidal looks set to leave on loan in January, meaning Luis Enrique will look to sign another right-back. Johnson, now playing for Stoke City, is said to have remained close friends with Barcelona Luis Suarez, who he played with at Liverpool.

The 32-year old's contract comes to an end at the end of the season and he would therefore be a cheap, easy option for Barcelona.

Suarez is a huge admirer of his former teammate and showered him with praise in his 2014 autobiography.

"He impressed me hugely. He has a combination of physical strength, power and intelligence and technically he's so good that despite being right footed he shoots better off of his left foot."

Shakhtar and Croatia man Darijo Srna has also been linked.

If Johnson to Barcelona comes off, it could potentially be an even more bizarre transfer than the time Julien Faubert somehow got a loan move to Real Madrid in 2009.
