The Glazers have set a staggering £4bn to sell Manchester United amid fan backlash over the club's involvement in the European Super League, according to reports.

The unpopular United owners came to power in 2005 when they purchased the Premier League team for a whopping £790m.

However, United co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer have been met with increasing criticism after the collapse of the European Super League.

Red Devils fans were spotted burning the US flag outside of Old Trafford on Saturday as they protested against the Florida-based family.

According to The Daily Mirror, the Glazers' £4bn asking price is based on the value they would have achieved if the European Super League had not fallen through.

The Glazers, who also own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have been widely unpopular during their tenure at Old Trafford as United's debt rose close to £430m last May.

But the United owners have shown little desire to sell off the Premier League club, despite reports of a potential takeover bid from Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in recent seasons.

The Mirror reports that city investors believe that brothers Joel and Avram could walk away from United if a £4bn bid is tabled for the Red Devils.

The newspaper added that 'United's unique heritage and commercial pulling power' are two important factors in the Glazers' astonishing price tag.

United and the other 'big six' Premier League clubs have withdrawn their support from The Super League after widespread condemnation across the world.

Joel has since issued an apology to United supporters in an open letter and said he is "personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans."

However, Avram caused quite a stir with fans after he refused to apologise for United's part in the controversial Super League.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that he was thrilled with The Super League clubs withdrawing from the European association, saying he is "very happy all of the clubs have admitted their mistake."
