Manchester United star Luke Shaw has created the most chances as a defender in the Premier League this season.

Shaw scored in his side's 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday to end their rival's 21-match winning streak.

He's in the form of his career with his performance against the leaders proving he's the best left-back in the league.

And stats echo that sentiment with @StatmanDave compiling the defenders who have created the most chances in England's top flight this campaign.

Shaw tops the list having created 50 chances and is ranked ahead of Liverpool duo Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold as well as Aaron Cresswell and Joao Cancelo.

Most chances created by a defender in the Premier League this season:

PLAYER - (CLUB) - CHANCES CREATED

Luke Shaw - (Manchester United) - 50

Andy Robertson - (Liverpool) - 45

Trent Alexander-Arnold - (Liverpool) - 44

Aaron Cresswell - (West Ham) - 39

Joao Cancelo - (Manchester City) - 38

Bruno Fernandes, who also scored against Man City, hailed Shaw's recent performances and pinpointed the signing of Alex Telles as the cause of his vastly improved form.

On Shaw winning the club's 'Player of the Month' award, he said: "I think Luke deserves it.

"He's been playing really, really well in the last few months. I think he started a little bit slow like everyone did because at the beginning of the season we didn't start good."

He added: "I think the competition between Alex [Telles] and Luke has given both of them the chances to be better and to improve. This is really important because you know if you are not performing well you will be out of the team.

"I think Luke started to perform well when he had that pressure from Alex. At the same time, Alex when he plays has played really well because he knows that Luke is on the bench.

"So, the pressure between them is good but the relationship between them is better, I have seen that in the stands."
