And they brought the passion to the stands from the moment the very first ball was kicked in the round of 16 first leg clash.
Then, when they went 1-0 up against the European champions through midfielder Saul just four minutes in after a poorly defended corner from Liverpool, the place was sent into absolute raptures.

The crowd well and truly did their job of spurring on Atleti tonight and the players, also aided by the animated Diego Simeone kicking every ball on the touchline, responded in superb fashion with a dogged defensive display.
Premier League leaders Liverpool have steamrolled so many teams this season but tonight they could not even muster a shot on target against a well-organised Atleti side that sat deep and defended like their lives depending on it.

Atleti became just the second team to beat Jurgen Klopp's men in the Champions League this season and now take a 1-0 lead to Anfield for the second leg on 11 March.
