The Champions League 'Team Of The Group Stage' According To Statistics

The best XI of the Champions League so far has been revealed.

The Champions League team of the group stage has been released after the first phase of the competition concluded last night.

WhoScored have put together an XI of the best performing players according to statistics, with qualifying players needing to have made at least three appearances in the group stage.

In goal is Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer, who conceded just four goals and kept four clean sheets for reigning European champions Bayern Munich.

The German received a rating of 7.5, while his club and international colleague Niklas Sule also made the side thanks to a 7.6 rating achieved courtesy of some imperious defensive displays in his four outings.

The backline is otherwise dominated by Serie A defenders. Juventus' South American full-back pair Juan Cuadrado and Alex Sandro are in with 7.5 and 8.3 ratings respectively, as is Atalanta's Christian Romero with a score of 8.2 as the Italian minnows reached the knockout stages for the second time.

Joshua Kimmich is the third Bayern player to feature, thanks to an 8.5 rating following on from his one goal and three assists.

The German is joined in midfield by Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder may have been dumped out of the competition but his four goals and one assist in six games has a resulted in a 7.5 rating - and a spot in this side.

On the right, six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi gets in after his three goals and two assists in four games gives him an 8.9 rating - the highest WhoScored grade in the competition thus far this term.

Messi's former partner in crime Neymar is also a shoo-in on the left after shining with six goals - including a stunning a hat-trick in the final group game against Istanbul Basaksehir. His rating, following three Man of the Match awards, was 8.1.

Up top, Juventus star and Champions League all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo (8.1) has continued to roll back the years at 35 with four goals in as many appearances and partners Borussia Dortmund hotshot Erling Haaland, who has an overall mark of 8.3 after his six strikes.
