Edinson Cavani's second half introduction at St Mary's was delayed as he had the wrong boots on.

The Uruguayan replaced Mason Greenwood at half-time but wasn't quite ready for the second half getting underway.

While play was going on after the kick off had been taken, Cavani was seen still tying the laces on a second pair of boots that had been handed to him.

He was stood on the touchline and Manchester United played with 10 men for a brief period before Cavani was then active.

And though he took his time actually getting involved, Cavani proved to be the hero for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

The former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli striker scored two headers - including a stoppage time winner as United came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Southampton.

Cavani, with a bit of help from Bruno Fernandes, turned the game on its head as United recorded an eighth consecutive league away win.

However, Roy Keane still had to mention the boots fiasco at the very beginning of a productive days' work.

"He was slow getting onto the pitch, with them boots," Keane said on Sky Sports.

"Just as well he did score because how the guy is not prepared and ready to go on is mind boggling, obviously he didn't need the boots in the end, he scored with two headers.

"He had a great contribution when he came on, with that quality, hunger and desire.

"People were doubting him, he could turn out to be a huge signing. It was a bit of a gamble, but it's worked out for them today."

Cavani is now United's second-highest goalscorer in the league this term, with three goals in just 129 minutes of action.
