You've got to agree with the Manchester City manager on this occasion...

Shortly after Bristol City's courageous 2-1 defeat at the Etihad on Tuesday night, Bristol City manager Lee Johnson revealed what Pep Guardiola told him after the full-time whistle.

The Championship high-flyers certainly didn't sit back and allow City to dominate play, like many other Premier League sides in recent weeks, and former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager Guardiola was hugely complimentary about their performance.

Manchester City manager Guardiola told Johnson that the Championship side played better than most of the Premier League teams that have come to Manchester City.

Pep's statement is certainly hard to disagree with.

In the first half, in-form striker Bobby Reid found the net from the penalty spot after Mangala's rash challenge in the area.

Premier League quality eventually broke the Championship side down, though. Goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero put Lee Johnson's side to bed.

SPORTbible spoke to Kevin de Bruyne about his FIFA Team of the Year...

Despite defeat in the League Cup, 7,860 away supporters would have been proud of their club's courageous performance at the Etihad.

Shortly after Bobby Reid netted from the penalty spot against Pep Guardiola's side, the injured Benjamin Mendy took to Twitter to express 'the only good thing about the goal'.

Bristol City produced this outstanding GIF of Reid using a fire extinguisher:

Minutes later, Mendy tweeted his appreciation of the tweet, but said: "Only good thing with this goal : new GIF from @bcfctweets now let's go boys!!!"

You don't see this happen very often..

Do you agree with Pep Guardiola? Did Bristol City play better than most of the Premier League teams that have come to Manchester City this season?
