Sergio Busquets had an understated role in Lionel Messi's wonderful free-kick against Atletico Madrid last night.
In scoring the only goal of the game in the 26th minute, the five-time Ballon d'Or took his La Liga tally to 27 goals for the season, while also netting his 600th career goal in stunning fashion.
Around 25 yards out, Messi, as he so often does, curled in an absolute beauty past goalkeeper Jan Oblak. It his Messi's fifth goal scored directly from a free-kick and though it's all about his set-piece taking abilities, he got some help from Busquets.
As seen in fascinating footage from Movistar, the Barca No.5 was deep into conversation with teammates Ivan Rakitic and Gerard Pique.
He appeared to be instructing them to form their own wall against Atletico's and obstruct the view of Oblak, so Messi had a clearer sight of goal.
While it's fairly basic stuff and nothing we haven't seen before, it was very effective and worked a treat. Just seeing hat alternative, up close and personal angle of Messi's free-kick and how it came to fruition, is very interesting.
