VVV-Venlo striker Lennart Thy is unavailable for selection for his side's next game but it's for a wonderful reason.

The 26-year old, on loan from Werder Bremen, isn't training with the Dutch outfit this week and is absent for the game against PSV at the weekend because he is donating blood for a Leukemia patient who is a DNA match.

According to the official VVV website, seven years ago, when he was coming through the ranks at Werder, he gave his DNA in the hope that it would match and save a Leukemia cancer patient's life in the future.

Last week, the brilliant news came that a match had been found and he will now give blood to aid doctors in their attempts to create stem cells and allow a transplant to take place.

If all goes well, a cancer suffer could be free of Leukemia as a stem cell transplant can be used to restore healthy bone marrow in patients, as per Cancer Center.

It's very rare that a complete match is found and VVV have made the brilliant decision to let their No.11 fulfil his duties.

Both the club and player are an absolute class act and definitely deserve recognitio.
