Sporting CP defender Sebastian Coates spent his 28th birthday saving a teammate's life during a 4-2 defeat to Portimonense at the weekend. Now that really is a birthday to remember.
The former Liverpool man acted quickly when goalkeeper Romain Salin collided with the goalpost.
Salin lay unconscious on the ground after trying to stop Shoya Nakajima's second goal in the 44th minute.

But thankfully he turned out to be okay after Coates opened Salin's mouth and put his fingers inside to stop the goalkeeper from swallowing his tongue.
The defender then called over Lisbon's medical team to help him before being substituted not long after. What could have happened if the Uruguayan didn't act so quickly. Well played, Seb.
Coates went on to score a consolation goal in the 88th minute as the Portuguese outfit suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat at the Estádio Municipal de Portimão.

To be fair, saving somebody's life is far more important than three points. Coates deserves a huge amount of credit for his efforts.
Respect.
