Only Two Premier League Players Feature In UEFA's Team Of The Year 2017

Over 8.7 million of votes have been cast to decide UEFA's annual Team of the Year and the results have already caused huge debate among football fans.

Voted by the fans, the usual suspects of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi make the cut but to the surprise of many, only two Premier League players feature.

Kevin de Bruyne picks his FIFA team of the Year...

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard appeared in 38% of teams, while Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne featured in an impressive 52.2% of teams voted by the fans.

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo featured in 70% of teams and teammate Sergio Ramos was the most popular pick, appearing in 73.3% of sides.

Other Real Madrid players who star in the UEFA Team of the Year include Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively.

Here's the official starting XI, voted by you the fans:

Perhaps the biggest debate when it comes to Team of the Season votes is who won the majority when it comes to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Well, over 8.7 millions votes tell us that five-time Ballon d'or winner Messi featured in 59.8% of teams, while Ronaldo was only chosen in 55.7%.

Even though Cristiano was awarded the Ballon d'Or and the best FIFA men's award back in December.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, European champions Real Madrid dominated the UEFA Team of the Year shortlist with 11 nominees, as the Premier League continued to lag behind their Spanish rivals.

Keylor Navas, Dani Carvajal , Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Casemiro , Isco, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Marco Asensio, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo deservedly make the list after an incredible campaign in the Champions League.

Barcelona and Italian champions Juventus had a total of 5 nominees each, while Atletico Madrid and Manchester United have 4 players in the Team of the Year shortlist.

In terms of players under the age of 23, Joshua Kimmich, Marco Asensio, Dele Alli, Kylian Mbappe, Saul Niguez, Benjamin Mendy and Davinson Sanchez were named respectively.

Here are some Football Manager wonderkids who flopped...
