Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told a Manchester United supporter that it has been "an honour" to manage the football club.

It was announced on Sunday morning that the Norwegian had parted ways with the Premier League side following a humiliating 4-1 defeat against struggling Watford at Vicarage Road.

He spent the morning saying his goodbyes to players and staff at Carrington and, just a few minutes after leaving the training ground, he bumped into United fan Luke Sellers on the side of a road.

In an emotional chat with Sellers, the Norwegian said it had been an honour to manage United after taking over in December 2018 following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Moments later, Solskjaer climbed out of his black Range Rover to embrace the fan, who wrote on Twitter: "This hug is from all of us who stuck by him."

The touching image has since gone viral on social media, with many United fans paying tribute to the 48-year-old manager.

Solskjaer was named the club's caretaker boss in December 2018 and three months later, the former United forward was appointed permanent manager on a three-year contract.

He has enjoyed some memorable moments as manager, including that Champions League win against Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, where a Marcus Rashford penalty sent United through to the quarter-finals.
