Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has once again produced a moment of pure magic by finding an incredible pass to Francisco Trincao without seeing the player charging into the box.

The 33-year-old Argentine superstar wanted to leave Barcelona in the summer and had been heavily linked with Manchester City.

However, Messi made a shock U-turn on his transfer request after admitting that he didn't want to take Barcelona to court over his release clause dispute.

The Argentina captain has now made an immediate impact in his return to the starting XI for Barcelona.

Barcelona are playing against Girona at the Johan Cruyff Stadium in a friendly match ahead of the new La Liga season.

During the 20th minute, Messi received the ball outside of the box and managed to slice the ball past three Girona players with an inch-perfect pass.

Trincao came bursting into the box and latched onto the six-time Ballon d'Or winner's ball, only to find Neto charging off his line to meet him.

But the 20-year-old Portuguese forward simply played the ball across the face of goal to Philippe Coutinho, who chipped the ball into the empty net.

Messi's mesmerising pass sent fans flocking to Twitter to praise his brilliance once again.

Barcelona took a 2-0 lead into half-time after Messi fired in an absolute peach of a curler from outside of the box.

Full-time result: Lionel Messi scored twice as Barcelona completed a 3-1 victory over Girona at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
