Orlando City Pay Emotional Tributes To Victims Of Pulse Nightclub Massacre

A heartfelt response to the tragedy

MLS side Orlando City have paid a moving tribute to victims of a mass shooting at a gay nightclub in the city last weekend.

49 people were killed and dozens more were injured when a man entered the club last Sunday and opened fire on the revellers, in what has been described as the deadliest attack on American soil since 9/11.

And in their first home league match since the atrocity, Orlando City pulled out all the stops to make sure the victims were honoured in the appropriate fashion.

The club's usual corner flags sported rainbow flags associated with the LGBT movement in a show of solidarity with the community, whilst 49 multi-coloured balloons were tied to seats before kick-off.

Then, as the match entered the 49th minute of play, players on the pitch and fans inside the stadium paused in a moving minute of silence:

The match with San Jose finished 2-2, but I think everyone will agree that this game was about more than three points.

Well played, Orlando City!
