Manchester City youngster Phil Foden didn't touch the ball when he came on as a stoppage time substitute in the 1-0 win over Chelsea but what he did after the game drew plaudits from Gary Neville.

The 17-year old starlet is highly thought of by manager Pep Guardiola, so much so that he is now ahead of Yaya Toure in the midfield pecking order.

Foden, who was the star of England Under 17's World Cup win and then went on to win the esteemed BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year as a result, has made seven appearances this term, including two starts.

The pint-sized Stockport-born midfielder is in line for a new contract and will see his wages doubled to £40,000-a-week when he turns 18 in May, as per the Daily Mail.

However, the youngster isn't one to rest on his laurels and proved that at the Etihad last night when he was out training with the fitness coach when the game was finished.

United legend Neville was recording a podcast and spotted Foden putting in the extra work, which he loved.

"I'm actually just watching Phil Foden out on the pitch and he's practicing, and you might think, 'why am I mentioning that?'" Neville said on his Sky Sports' podcast.

"I'm mentioning that because I don't see enough of it and actually I'm delighted to see him out there with the fitness coach, about to do some work on his own and I like it."

Foden has the world at his feet but it's great to see a young player have that drive and determination to continue to improve. Should he make one more Premier League appearance this season, he will receive a Premier League winner's medal to go with his honour for featuring in the Carabao Cup final.
