Michael Carrick wasn't in the squad for Manchester United's 2-0 win over Swansea City today, but he took up a spot on the bench as a coach.
The 36-year old, who is retiring at the end of the season, has managed just 24 minutes of Premier League football this season following heart problems.
The underrated former England international is to be part of the backroom staff at Old Trafford next season and Jose Mourinho decided to test the waters by giving him a spot alongside his assistants Rui Faria, Silvino Louro and Ricardo Formosinho.
"It's only for next season really but, this season, he is already coming and sharing a little bit of our space," the United boss said after the game, as per The Mirror.

"We are opening the door for him to not have a difficult transition next season. So, this season, he's doing little things.
"I think it's a good experience for him until the end of the season. Maybe, in three or four matches, it's another experience for him to share the bench from a different perspective."
