Mesut Ozil's Unique 'Bounce' Shooting Technique Is Something Else

Introducing 'The Ozil Chop'.

We've had the Cruyff Turn and the Maradona but a lesser known signature skill is Mesut Ozil's trademark bounce shot.

Last night, the German returned to the Arsenal side and starred in the 5-1 drubbing inflicted on Bournemouth - opening the scoring just four minutes in and supplying an assist for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

And while his goal may have looked like a simple finish at first glance, it was anything but.

Yet again Ozil perfected his signature shooting technique, almost kicking the ball into the ground with his in-step so that it bounced agonisingly out of the reach of Artur Boruc.

It's as if he created topspin through his unique technique as rather than an ordinary chip, the pace on the ball can prove too much to handle.

In the past many had thought it was merely a miss-hit shot on Ozil's part but his point to his foot shows he meant every bit of it.

Plus, there's far too many examples now. He's used the skill to score past both Simon Mignolet and Jonas Lossl in games against Liverpool and Huddersfield before, as well as with his weaker foot in a 5-0 Champions League thumping of Ludogorets a few years back.

Further evidence comes via the fact that he utilised the technique as a way to play a through ball when playing for Germany against Denmark at Euro 2012, while there's many clips of him doing it in training too.

Gunners legend Ian Wright has noticed it and showered praise on Ozil during Match of the Day last night.

Wright said: "He bounces it on purpose. He did it against Huddersfield and he kicked down on it against Bournemouth.

"Instead of chipping it over a keeper he bounces it over him. You can see him telling everyone what he did [while celebrating].

"It's just such a brave finish for someone to do. It's brilliant. It's the Ozil."

Simply put, Ozil is a revolutionary and we look forward to the next time he busts out his magic move.

In other news for football innovativeness, Cesc Fabregas appeared to invent a new way to pass a football on Sunday.

All we can say is that by almost standing on the ball with his left foot, the former Arsenal captain fooled Tanguy Ndombele and played the ball right into the path of Aleksandr Golovin.

Even the man himself is still in awe of the wizardry and sauce he displayed. And when questioned whether he meant it or if it was a heavy touch, he assured us all that he did indeed.
