Lionel Messi's superb run of form in recent weeks has been highlighted in a compilation of his performance against Sevilla on Saturday.

Ousmane Dembele fired Barcelona into the lead at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan before Messi added his side's second to seal all three points.

The 33-year-old Argentine superstar has now scored an impressive 24 times and registered nine assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Messi also ranks top of the La Liga goalscoring chart with 19 to his name, putting him three ahead of former teammate Luis Suarez.

Speaking ahead of the 2-0 defeat, Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui hailed the six-time Ballon d'Or winner the "best player in history."

Messi delivered a brilliant performance at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan and seemed unstoppable to Joan Jordan, who tried dragging him to the floor in a last-ditch challenge.

Now, a compilation has emerged to showcase the Barcelona captain's influence during the match and why he remains the crux to his side's performances.

According to Transfermarkt, Messi has played against Sevilla 42 times across all competitions and scored a whopping 38 times against them.

The Argentina captain's latest outing against the Spanish side earned him a 9.49 player rating from WhoScored.

Messi maintained a 90.3 per cent possession stat as he scored once and registered an assist in Barcelona's 2-0 win.

Speaking before Saturday's Sevilla clash, Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman urged his attacking forwards to do more to share the goalscoring responsibilities with Messi.

The 57-year-old Dutchman said at his pre-match press conference: "He [Messi] can't always do it alone. Messi has 18 goals.

"The other attackers, together, have the same number, he needs help.

"You don't always have to ask the best or the most experienced players to make the difference.
