A stunning video of a young Lionel Messi single-handedly destroying a 'peak Manchester United' has gone viral and you can see why.

Messi, aged 20 at the time, delivered a sensational individual performance for Barcelona against Man United in the Champions League back in 2008.

He wreaked havoc from the right wing, giving legendary midfielder Paul Scholes in particular the run around.

Messi was a constant threat for Barca as he showed off his insane dribbling skills, taking on players with absolute ease.

The slippery Argentine capped off his performance with naughty piece of skill to ruin Scholes.

He also somehow evaded both Michael Carrick and Park Ji-sung in a sublime moment.

Fans on social media loved Messi's showing at Old Trafford.

One wrote: "The way he kept moving past Scholes as if he wasn't there."

A second tweeted: "Paul Scholes had no idea whatsoever."

A third joked: "Long haired Messi was unplayable."

Scholes, though, had the last laugh as he scored the only goal of the tie to send Man United into the Champions League final.

And, of course, his side went onto win the competition, beating Chelsea on penalties.

Though Messi and Co would exact revenge with a victory in the Champions League final the following season.

Messi scored a towering header in his side's 2-0 win in Rome.
