Edinson Cavani Is Thriving In Zlatan's Absence, Even If PSG Aren't

The Uruguayan's goal scoring record this season is unreal

He may have spent the last few years of his career being a butt of countless jokes, but Edinson Cavani's goal scoring record at PSG has always been impressive and this season, the Uruguayan has returned to the phenomenal heights of his free scoring days at Napoli.

Cavani was shunted out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his first four seasons at PSG and, despite earning a reputation of being untrustworthy or overrated, the former Palermo man still returned an impressive haul of 81 goals in 148 games.

He may be equally as free scoring, but Cavani still can't compare to compatriot Luis Suarez when it comes to mad moments...

Of course, there is a school of thought that any player deployed in a remotely attacking position at PSG over the last four years should by default help themselves to at least 20 goals a season, but with the French champions currently being outdone by Monaco in Ligue Un, this season, Cavani is finding the back of the net on a much more regular basis.

The 29-year-old has fired in 31 goals in 30 games, this season with 23 of those coming in just 22 league games. And, to prove Cavani's not just finding things easy in the relative comfort of Ligue Un, the Uruguayan hitman has also scored six in six in the Champions League. A vast improvement on his two goals in 10 matches during the competition, last term.

It would appear that Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure last Summer has revitalised the Uruguayan, who can now hopefully shed the image of being a misfiring liability and instead show the world why he was named in three consecutive Serie A team of the years (having netted an incredible 104 times in 138 games for Napoli) and why he took home golden boot honours in the Italian top flight in 2013 and Uruguay's Copa America 2011 success.
