He might be pushing 40 but Didier Drogba showed American soccer fans he still has what it takes to be a hit State side on his debut for Phoenix Rising FC.

Only founded in 2014, Phoenix play in the second tier of the American pyramid system, and it took Drogba just 40 minutes to open the scoring in a 2-1 win over Whitecaps FC II.

Aside from captaining Phoenix, the 39-year-old also co-owns the club, and he looked more than up for the project last night:

Following the victory, Drogba dedicated the win to his former Ivory Coast team-mate Cheick Tiote.

Earlier this week, Tiote collapsed during a training session with his team Beijing Enterprises in China.
News then emerged that the 30-year-old had sadly passed away.

Tiote started his professional career with Anderlecht in Belgium before joining Eredivisie side FC Twente in 2008, where he spent two years and won one league title and one Supercup.

He made his name at Newcastle, where he made a total of 156 appearances after joining the club in a £3.5 million move in 2010.

Tiote left the club in the middle of of the 2016/17 title-winning campaign, signing for Chinese second tier side Beijing Enterprises.

It looks like we have a little longer to enjoy Drogba slamming the ball into the back of the net.

Could he still cut it in England?
