Manchester City continued their hot streak in Europe last night, knocking four past a helpless Basel side in the Champions League round of 16 tie.

Ilkay Gundogan scored a brace, while goals from Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva helped Pep Guardiola's side to an inevitable pass to the quarter-finals, ahead of the second leg in Manchester next month.

As well as bagging on Tuesday night the tricky Silva showed why teammates call him 'bubble gum' midway through the second half.

In the 57th minute, City defender Vincent Kompany smashed the ball into the sky and to be honest, we thought it was going straight into row Z.

But somehow, after watching the ball for what seemed like an eternity, Bernardo Silva plucked it from the sky and controlled it dead on the touchline. He proceeded to nutmeg the Basel player, finding teammate Kevin de Bruyne in space.

Now this is seriously impressive:

In an interview with FIFA.com last year, the Portuguese international revealed the reason behind his 'Pastilha' nickname, which means Bubble Gum.

"My teammates started calling me that because of the way I play. I think they were just having fun with me, but it stuck,"

Benjamin Mendy has also referenced the nickname in recent months: " Bernardo Silva ? I called him bubble gum because the ball is glued to his foot. I could pay him to watch him play."

Despite being linked heavily with a move to Manchester United last summer, playmaker Silva jetted into the North West to put pen to paper on a move to the Citizens and the rest is history.

Thoughts on Silva as a player? Does he deserve more playing time?
