Alex Song was a baller for Arsenal the season before Barcelona poached him with his outrageous solo assist for Robin van Persie summing up his incredible campaign.

Song pulled the strings in midfield and forged a lethal partnership with Van Persie who enjoyed an ultra-prolific 2011/12 term.

He scored an impressive 37 goals in all competitions including five in the Champions League with Song producing one of the all-time great assists in the competition.

The Cameroon midfielder did his best Lionel Messi impression as he weaved his way through three Dortmund bodies to set up his Dutch teammate.

After skillfully skipping past a couple of Dortmund players, he then picked out Van Persie with a delicious cross for a stunning goal.

Twitter user @Ulroud reminded us of the superb assist, sharing the clip accompanied with the caption: "Who remembers when Alex Song did THIS against Borussia Dortmund?"

Arsenal fans couldn't get enough of the throwback moment as they reminisced.

One wrote: "We took Song's form for granted. Imagine Pogba pinging in assists from deep as consistently as Song did. United fans would not let us hear the last of it. He was this close to greatness. Then Barcelona came and ruined his career."

A second tweeted: "He was even better than Yaya Toure at one season."

A third added: "Prime Alex Song was a baddd man. I'm still mad he left for Barca and messed up his career."

At his best, Song was a joy to watch. Just a shame that his career never really took off once he left the Emirates.
