Sutton United's incredible performance was somewhat undermined last night by the furore over sub goalkeeper Wayne Shaw and his now infamous quick bite to eat on the sidelines during the game against Arsenal.

Shaw became a bit of an online celebrity during the non league team's run to the fifth round of the FA Cup for being the roly poly goalie who helps around the ground as a bit of a caretaker whilst also sitting on the bench.

In the build up to the Arsenal game he was probably the most sought after interviewee from the Surrey based team, even though he was never likely to play any part in the match.

However last night he was once again centre of attention when he was filmed sat on the bench eating a pie, after all three of Sutton's subs had been used. At first it looked like a hilarious 'magic of the cup' moment but on further 'investigation' it was shown to be a cynical piece of advertising.

Sun Bets had sponsored Sutton for the one off game and it came to light that the company had offered odds of 8/1 that Shaw would eat a pie on the bench during the game.

That led to many criticising the goalkeeper and the betting company and now Shaw is under investigation for the incident:

The 23 stone goalie posted his own message on Twitter replying to the incident:

In the end the whole thing has rather distracted from what was a fun and entertaining game and a cup run that caught the imagination of many neutral fans.
