Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has attracted reported interest from Arsenal and Inter Milan this summer, but the latest link comes as a major surprise.

According to German outlet Kicker, Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have been in touch with Manchester United in regards to taking the Frenchman on loan for the 2016/17 season.

Inter Milan have also asked for the same privilege, as they want United's No.11 for a season if the Red Devils finally agree a fee with the San Siro club and sign top target Ivan Perisic.

Wolfsburg, who won the Bundesliga in 2008/09, have experienced a huge fall from grace in recent years and after finishing 16th out of the 18 Bundesliga teams, only narrowly avoided relegation to the second tier of German football because of a 2-0 two leg play-off win over Eintracht Braunschweig, the third best side in the 2.Bundesliga which guaranteed their survival.

But they are being ambitious in the transfer market and have signed six players so far, including United States international John Anthony Brooks from Hertha Berlin, Nana Landra Dimata from Belgian side KV Oostende and Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho.

A deal for Martial, even on loan, would be quite incredible.

Having arrived for an initial £36 million, potentially rising to £58 million, in 2014, Martial was in fine form during his first season at Old Trafford, hitting 17 goals in all competitions. However he struggled under Jose Mourinho last term, scoring nine goals and starting just half of United's Premier League games - with his agent being very vocal about his disappointment over how last season went down.

He could be on the fringes again next term, with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku for £75 million, as well as a deal for Perisic still potentially happening, but Wolfsburg would certainly not be the club you would expect to enquire about his services.
