A supercomputer has predicted that Manchester City will clash with defending Champions League holders Bayern Munich in the final this season.

UEFA's top-tier club competition will resume mid-February as the remaining European teams compete in the first leg of their round-of-16 matches.

Ahead of the Champions League's return, FiveThirtyEight recently updated its predictions to reveal how teams will perform in the remainder of the tournament.

City, who face Borussia Monchengladbach in the next round, top the table with a 47 per cent chance of reaching the final.

Bayern are the second team likely to reach the final with a 30 per cent prediction from FiveThirtyEight, while Barcelona and Liverpool have 24 per cent and 16 per cent chance respectively.

However, City hold the highest chance of winning the Champions League with 31 per cent, putting them well clear of Bayern's 16 per cent.

Bayern captured the Champions League title last season with a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

PSG face a tough next round in the competition as they face Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the first leg.

Last season's Champions League finalists have only been predicted a 36 per cent chance of beating Barcelona and reaching the quarter-finals.

According to the predictions, defending French champions PSG have only a nine per cent chance of reaching the final and a four per chance of lifting the Champions League trophy.

Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively have a five per cent and four per cent chance of winning the final this season.

This year's Champions League final will be held on the 29th May at the Ataturk Olympic in Istanbul.
