Steven Gerrard Sends Message To Jordan Henderson After He Becomes Premier League Winning Captain

Steven Gerrard Sends Message To Jordan Henderson After He Becomes Premier League Winning Captain

Steven Gerrard has sent a classy message to Jordan Henderson after Liverpool ended a 30-year wait for a league title.

In captaining the Reds to a Premier League triumph, Henderson has done something Gerrard was never able to do in his career despite coming close on a couple of occasions.

The former Sunderland midfielder inherited the captaincy off Liverpool legend Gerrard when he left the club after 17 years of service in 2015.

And this morning the ex England skipper expressed his pride at the leader Henderson has become. Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "Couldn't of [sic] passed it to a better person. Proud of you @JHenderson."

Gerrard, who had earlier stated that Liverpool winning the league this term would help him move on from that infamous, costly slip in 2014, had an emotional reaction to seeing his beloved Reds' being crowned champions on Thursday night after Manchester City's defeat.

In his Instagram post, Gerrard wrote: "Congratulations to all @liverpoolfc on winning the premier league. Incredible achievement from a fantastic squad of top players. Lead by a world class manager and coaching team also a special mention for the backing from FSG . And lastly and most importantly the fans who have waited 30 years. Let the party begin."

Gerrard, who scored 186 goals in 710 appearances for Liverpool and will go down as one of the club's greatest ever players, believes Jurgen Klopp deserves a statue for the incredible job he has done with the Merseyside outfit.

He told The Athletic: "What you need to take into consideration is that when Jurgen took over Liverpool they weren't close to being the best team in the country, they weren't even in the top four.

"To come to Liverpool when he did, get to the amount of finals that he has, deliver the sixth European Cup and then deliver the first league title after 30 years...

"For me, someone like Jurgen should be rewarded now. It seems like in football we often wait until people get older before their achievements are fully recognised.

"But I know the owners of Liverpool won't let that happen. When Jurgen delivers the league they should already be starting work on a statue of him."
