Steven Gerrard has told Martin Skrtel he "will be missed" after leaving Liverpool for Fenerbahce.

The Anfield legend might be more than a year away from the club after joining LA Galaxy, but he's still a fan and obviously knows just what impact Skrtel has had over his eight years as a player there.

Gerrard played with Skrtel for seven of those years and they enjoyed some good times, winning the League Cup in 2012 and achieving a number of great results in Europe together. But the Slovakian defender was surplus to requirements at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp and his £5million switch to Fenerbahce is his bid for first team football as he moves into the latter stages of his career.

Gerrard has joined the tributes to Skrtel on his Anfield exit, and told the powerful defender, via his Instagram account, that he will be missed:

Gerrard wrote: "8 an a half years of great service

solid man on and off the pitch . You will be missed mate . Good luck for your future
#37 #ynwa (sic)."

Skrtel made 319 appearances in his time at Liverpool and is sure to be remembered fondly by fans despite his spell at the club ending as a regular back-up defender.
