Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have been dominating the rumour mills as they continue to be linked with coaching and playing roles. Lampard was red-hot favourite to take the MK Dons managerial vacancy while Gerrard has been offered a playing stint at Inter Milan as well as coaching gigs.

But it appears the pair of former England international are on top of the FA wish list. The English governing body including technical director Dan Ashworth wants the ex-midfield duo to team up and join Gareth Southgate's coaching staff.

Current interim-boss, Southgate, is in line to get the post on a full-time basis as the FA eye up Gerrard and Lampard. Southgate is set to face a five-man panel with the job looming.

Both Gerrard and Lampard have recently confirmed that they are departing the States with LA Galaxy and New York City, respectively. Needless to say, they have no shortage of suitors in extending their playing careers.

Though will they grace a pitch again? They've expressed a desire in heading into the coaching side of the game as speculation remains rampant about their futures.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville adopted the role the FA intend to employ Gerrard and Lampard with by acting as the middle man between the players and management.
