Lightning strikes twice...

Four years ago, pints went flying everywhere as England fans celebrated Raheem Sterling crashing a strike into the side-netting against Italy. Now we have another World Cup 'ghost goal' to add to the collection.

The Group A clash between Egypt and Uruguay didn't have too much action in all truth but we did have Luis Suarez hitting the side-netting from a corner in a repeat scenario 23 minutes into the game.

Suarez broke free in the box and looked nailed on to open the scoring from close range.

A whole lot of people thought it was a goal. Fans in the stadium jumped out of their seats in celebration, while even Jonathan Pearce and Martin Keown on commentary thought the ball had ended up in the back of the net and that it was chalked off.

Of course, BBC replays showed the strike was wide of the mark and Suarez had spurned a big chance.

Here's just some of the hilariously brilliant reaction on social media:

You just can't have a World Cup without a 'ghost goal' and Jonathan Pearce forgetting the rules of football...
