Arsenal's majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, is hoping to take full control of the club after tabling a huge offer to Alisher Usmanov.

Usmanov, Arsenal's second-largest shareholder, has received a massive £525 million bid to hand over his 30.4% stake in the club, according to the Guardian.

The pair of wealthy shareholders have been butting heads for some time now as they both seek to wrestle the remaining shares in their favour.

In May, the Russian lodged an offer to Kroenke which was subsequently rejected. But the American has now tested the resolve of his fellow shareholder with the latest bid.

As it stands, Kroenke owns 67% of the club with Usmanov retaining a 30.4% stake. The remaining shares are spread across minority shareholders.

A spokesperson was on hand to comment on the situation: "We are owned 97% by two very wealthy individuals but it is a disappointment that they have never managed to get together and see eye to eye to move the club forward," via Guardian.

"The benefit of their wealth and experience could have been felt in unison but Arsenal has not been able to gain from it.

"If Kroenke were to get to 97 % he can force Arsenal into becoming a completely private company. That would be a major concern for everyone involved in Arsenal. At that point transparency would be a real minimum," the spokesperson added.
