Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to Old Trafford in a bid to bring a smile back to people's faces after a dull period under Jose Mourinho.

And the Norwegian made a dream start to life as United caretaker boss with a thumping 5-1 win over his former employers Cardiff City.

United produced easily their best performance of the season, with goals from Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard (2) giving Solskjaer a huge win in his first game in charge.

In stark contrast to Jose Mourinho, Solskjaer wildy celebrated every goal with his staff on the bench and then showed his class after the game in the tunnel.

The 45-year old was on the way back to the dressing room when Sky Sports News presenter Jim White congratulated him on the win.

Solskjaer took time to shake his hand and tell him," All the best" with a smile on his face before greeting other employees.

A lot was made about Jose Mourinho lacking in people skills but Solskjaer has already brought back the positivity to the place, it seems.

In fact, his first gesture upon his arrival back at United was to gift Kath Phipps, the club's receptionist of 50 years, with a bar of Norwegian chocolate.

The comprehensive win in South Wales yesterday was the first time United have scored five in a league game since Sir Alex Ferguson's game in charge back in May 2013 when the Scot bowed out with a crazy 5-5 draw against West Brom.
