Gary Neville Claims Solskjaer Is Working With A Squad ‘Like The One Klopp Picked Up At Liverpool'

Gary Neville has insisted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is working with a Manchester United squad similar to what Jurgen Klopp inherited at Liverpool.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss, 52, arrived at Anfield in 2015 and drastically overhauled the Reds squad to allow them to challenge for the Premier League title last season.

And United legend Neville believes that it will take time for the Red Devils manager to change the complexion of his current squad at Old Trafford.

"It took [Pep] Guardiola 12 months, three transfer windows [to get on track], because he had a better squad in the first place," the Sky Sports pundit said on the 'Gary Neville Podcast.'

"It's taken Klopp three or four years to affect the culture fully and get a team fully in what he would say is his style, his culture and what he wants to do.

"It does take time. Solskjaer is working more with a squad like the one Klopp picked up at Liverpool than the one Guardiola inherited at City.

"From that point of view, this is going to be a long game at Old Trafford and it's going to be frustrating at times."

Solskjaer, 46, made three signings this summer as he snapped up Daniel James from Swansea City for £15m.

Along with James, who has scored three times for the Red Devils this season, United splashed out a whopping £80m to sign Harry Maguire and £50m on Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The United boss has also had a summer clearout after Romelu Lukaku completed his move to Inter Milan and Matteo Darmian has also left for Parma.

And Alexis Sanchez has been sent out on loan to Inter Milan and Chris Smalling has also left the club in a loan deal to Roma.

United have won only one league match this season, having dropped points against Wolves and Southampton.

The Red Devils were also stunned when they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last month.

However, Solskjaer can look at the positives after it emerged that his side had the best Premier League defence ahead of Manchester City this season.
