Sol Campbell Issues Defiant Message To Mesut Ozil
Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has weighed-in on the Mesut Ozil saga by urging him to sign a new contract at the club.
The German's future has been subject to intense speculation following his reluctance on signing a new deal.
It's believed that the club and player have been in talks for months but without any conclusion. Ozil has since spoken about the ordeal.
The influential midfielder explained how he wanted assurance that Arsene Wenger will still be in charge of the Gunners beyond 2018 upon signing on the all-important dotted line.
And Campbell understands his demands, but ultimately believes it's the wrong approach.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said of the situation;
"Like any top player Ozil wants to play with the manager who signed him. It's nice to keep that continuity going with the same manager."
"I can understand why he said that but who's got a crystal ball? Arsene is not going to sign a four year contract so really that's academic."
"I'm sure they're quite close to signing deals with both players (Ozil and Sanchez), it's all about sitting down, compromising and signing on the dotted line.
The Arsenal faithfuls will be hoping Ozil does indeed prolong his stay at the Emirates, though if he does become available he'll no doubt have no shortage of potential suitors.
