Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez has revealed that Arsenal did indeed try and sign him in the summer, but like his Foxes compatriot Jamie Vardy, he stayed put.
Arsenal did go about trying to sign Mahrez, but Claudio Ranieri and Leicester were in no mood to sell one of their prize assets and no move transpired.
Mahrez talked about Arsenal's interest and why he decided to remain with the Premier League champions.
Speaking to Canal Football Club, he said:
Advert
"There was contact with Arsenal. But Leicester wanted to keep me and I was pretty expensive. I did not want to create a conflict when the offer came in."
"Personally, I think it is a good thing I stayed put. It's now up to me to prove myself again."
Leicester fans will no doubt be over the moon that they managed to fend off interest from Arsene Wenger to keep their dynamic duo Mahrez and Vardy; the two scored 41 goals between them in the Premier League last season.
