Tim Sherwood is clearly still to be convinced that Ralf Rangnick is the right man for the job at Manchester United, after telling the club's fans to "relax a little bit" after the German's appointment as interim manager.

Sherwood made the comments on Sky Sports' Gillette Soccer Saturday show, and the former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa boss believes Rangnick still has plenty to prove, despite already being a well-respected figure in the game.

He said: "He will be the messiah, but I think Man United fans need to relax a little bit. If they play the way he wants them to play against the top teams, then you can give him credit.

"He's earned the right to be where he is, but I think he's lucky to be Man United manager, I really do. Nobody else wanted him, it wasn't a bunfight for this guy. The guy was available, and they think he's the best man for it. Yes, he looks very good at talking to the press, he spins it brilliantly.

"I'm not a fan yet, no, and I think it's right to be cautious. I've seen it before with managers that talk very well, but the talking has to be done on the pitch, and there has to be improvement in Man United."

Rangnick takes his third match in charge of United when they play Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday night, aiming to secure a third consecutive Premier League victory for the first time since September.

As for Norwich, their four-match unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-0 defeat away at Tottenham last time out.

The Canaries sit bottom of the table with 10 points from 15 games, three points adrift of Watford in 17th after their 2-1 defeat at Brentford on Friday.
