Will anyone break Alan Shearer's Premier League goal record? Well, the man himself has named two strikers who could possibly surpass his incredible tally.

The former Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle star enjoyed 19 seasons in the top flight netting a total of 260 goals, miles ahead of his nearest competition.

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has bagged 195 goals while the top bunch is largely made of up players who are no longer playing and thus aren't in a position oust Shearer.

Though despite initially believing just Spurs' Harry Kane could potentially break his record, as long as he stays injury-free, the Geordie legend feels Manchester City's Sergio Aguero could also be in the running.

That's if both players continue to ply their trade in England rather than moving abroad.

Regarding his fellow-Englishman, he said. "Harry Kane has made a stunning start to his career in the Premier League. If he avoids injury and continues his career here rather than trying his luck abroad, he will have the opportunity."

Playing for a strong team obviously helps but Shearer poses the question whether the feared Argentine frontman will stay in the Premier League for the rest of his career.

"Sergio Aguero also plays for a strong and very aggressive team. But I think that the same question can be applied to him. Will he stay for the rest of his career in the Premier League?"

What do you reckon of Shearer's shouts?

Will either men come close? Or will they do the unthinkable and break his long-standing record? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
